Hypnotherapy for Anxiety
Feel calmer. Think more clearly. Get your life back.
If you're living with anxiety, it can feel as though your brain is constantly on high alert. You may find yourself overthinking, expecting the worst, struggling to switch off or feeling exhausted by worries that never seem to stop.
The good news is that anxiety is a normal response from the brain—not a sign that there is something wrong with you. Once you understand why anxiety happens, it becomes much easier to change it.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines modern neuroscience, practical psychological techniques and relaxing hypnosis to help calm an anxious mind and build healthier patterns of thinking. It is a positive, forward-looking approach that helps you regain confidence and feel more in control of your life.
Whether your anxiety is affecting your work, relationships, sleep, confidence or enjoyment of everyday life, I can help.
Understanding anxiety
Your brain is designed to keep you safe.
Deep inside the brain is an area called the amygdala, often described as our ‘fight, flight or freeze’ response. When it senses danger, it reacts incredibly quickly, preparing your body to protect itself.
The problem is that the amygdala doesn't always distinguish between a genuine physical threat and everyday worries such as giving a presentation, driving, social situations or an overflowing to-do list.
When stress builds over time, the amygdala becomes more sensitive and starts sounding the alarm more often. This makes it harder for the logical, thinking part of the brain—the prefrontal cortex—to stay in control.
This is why anxiety can make you:
Overthink situations
Imagine worst-case scenarios
Feel constantly on edge
Struggle to concentrate
Lose confidence
Have trouble sleeping
Experience panic attacks
Feel emotionally overwhelmed
The encouraging news is that the brain is adaptable. Thanks to neuroplasticity, new neural pathways can be created throughout life. By reducing stress and repeatedly practising more helpful ways of thinking, the brain can begin to respond differently.
How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps anxiety
Unlike therapies that spend lots of time analysing problems from the past, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy concentrates on helping your brain move towards the future you want.
Together we'll work to:
Understand how anxiety works in the brain
Reduce the overall level of stress in your nervous system
Identify what's already working well
Build confidence and resilience
Develop practical strategies that fit your everyday life
Use hypnosis to reinforce calm, positive patterns of thinking
The hypnosis itself is a deeply relaxing experience. Despite common myths, you remain aware, in control and able to hear everything throughout. It simply allows your mind to enter a naturally focused and relaxed state, making it easier for positive learning and change to take place.
Most clients tell me that after just a few sessions they notice they feel calmer, sleep better and find themselves responding differently to situations that would previously have triggered anxiety.
Is there scientific evidence?
Research has shown that hypnosis can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and improve emotional wellbeing for many people when used by a qualified practitioner alongside evidence-based psychological approaches.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy also draws on principles from Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while incorporating psychoeducation about how the brain responds to stress. Rather than simply teaching coping strategies, the aim is to help reduce the level of background anxiety so that your natural resilience can return.
As stress levels decrease, people often notice improvements not only in anxiety, but also in sleep, confidence, motivation, focus and overall wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does hypnotherapy really work for anxiety?
Many people find Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to be an effective way of reducing anxiety and improving their overall wellbeing. It combines evidence-based psychological techniques with hypnosis to help reduce stress, strengthen resilience and encourage healthier patterns of thinking.
While everyone's experience is different, many clients notice they feel calmer, sleep better and are able to cope with situations that previously felt overwhelming.
Can hypnotherapy cure anxiety?
There isn't a simple ‘cure’ for anxiety because anxiety itself is a normal human emotion that helps keep us safe. The aim of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy isn't to remove anxiety altogether, but to reduce unnecessary anxiety so that it no longer controls your life.
Most clients find they become more resilient, less reactive to stress and able to approach life's challenges with greater confidence and calm.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your individual circumstances, how long you've been experiencing anxiety and what you'd like to achieve.
Some people notice positive changes within just a few sessions, while others benefit from a longer course of treatment. During your initial consultation, we'll discuss your goals and I'll give you a realistic idea of what to expect.
What happens during hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a state of focused relaxation. It's a natural state that most of us experience every day, such as when we're completely absorbed in a book, a film or daydreaming.
During hypnosis you'll remain aware of what's happening around you. You can't be made to do anything against your wishes, and you're free to open your eyes or end the session whenever you choose.
Many people describe it as one of the most relaxing experiences they've had.
Will I lose control?
No. This is one of the biggest myths about hypnosis.
You remain in control throughout the session and can hear everything I say. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy isn't stage hypnosis. It's a professional therapeutic approach designed to help you relax while supporting positive change.
Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy evidence-based?
Yes. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines Solution Focused Brief Therapy with hypnosis and draws on current understanding of neuroscience, stress physiology and neuroplasticity.
During our sessions, I'll explain how stress affects the brain and why understanding this can help you make lasting changes.
Can I have sessions online?
Yes. Online Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is just as relaxing and effective for many people. All you need is a quiet, comfortable space, a reliable internet connection and somewhere to sit or lie back during the hypnosis.
Many clients appreciate the convenience of being able to have sessions from home.
Is hypnotherapy suitable for panic attacks?
Yes. Many people seek Solution Focused Hypnotherapy because they're experiencing panic attacks or fear of having one.
As your overall stress levels reduce and you gain a better understanding of how anxiety works, panic attacks often become less frequent and less intense. You'll also learn practical ways to interrupt the cycle of fear that can keep them going.
Will I have to talk about my past?
No. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses much more on where you want to go than on what's gone wrong.
While understanding a little about your situation is helpful, we don't spend sessions analysing painful memories or repeatedly revisiting difficult experiences. Instead, we focus on your strengths, your goals and the small, positive changes that help your brain move forwards.
How do I get started?
The first step is to book an Initial Consultation.
During this session we'll talk about what's been happening for you, explain how anxiety works in the brain, answer any questions you have and discuss how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy could help. From there, if you decide it's the right approach for you, we'll create a treatment plan that's tailored to your goals.
Why choose me?
Finding the right therapist is about more than qualifications (which I do have, see my About page). It's about feeling comfortable, understood and confident that you're in safe hands.
My aim is to create a calm, supportive environment where you feel listened to from the very first session. I know that asking for help can feel like a big step, particularly when anxiety has been affecting your confidence, so I work at a pace that feels right for you.
I use Solution Focused Hypnotherapy because it combines the latest understanding of neuroscience with a practical, positive approach to change. Rather than dwelling on what's gone wrong, we'll focus on where you want to be and the small, achievable steps that help you get there.
Every session is tailored to you. We'll work together to understand your goals, celebrate progress and build the confidence and resilience you need to move forwards.
Clients often tell me that one of the most valuable parts of our work together is understanding how their brain works. Once they realise that anxiety is a normal response to stress—not something that's "wrong" with them—they begin to feel more hopeful and empowered about making lasting changes.
Whether you're struggling with constant worry, panic attacks, social anxiety or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, my role is to help you feel calmer, think more clearly and rediscover the confidence to enjoy life again.
If you're ready to take that first step, I'd be delighted to support you on your journey.
